I think not having an understanding of what happens at the testing center contributed to my nervousness. I had an idea of what to expect for the exam, but not from the atmosphere or the preparation of the center before the exam. These things may be small, but they matter and contribute to your ability to focus, recall information, and succeed passing the exam.

Here are my top 5 suggestions on how to reduce the nervousness you may feel right before the exam:

  1. Remember the people at the exam are there to help you not to intimidate you.
  2. Understand it isn’t a big deal to be wanded, it’s to help maintain the integrity of the exam center. It’s nothing against you.
  3. When waiting to take the test after you arrive, think positive.
  4. If you have the opportunity talk to others are around you if that would make you comfortable.
  5. Turn off your cell phone before you enter the room! Cell phones are definitely frowned up within the center.

Here are my top 5 suggestions on how to reduce the nervousness you may feel during the exam:

  1. Focus on the question in front of you. It is your only opponent. Think of nothing but the question at hand.
  2. Check the clock on your screen every 10 to 20 questions for time management. So you aren’t worried about how fast you are moving (or how slow) and can focus on the question at hand.
  3. Don’t be afraid to use your scrap paper for things like:
    1. Using your brain dump.
    2. Solving equations.
    3. Eliminating answers.
    4. Silence is golden, but don’t let your mind wander or start to think about the person next to you who keeps fidgeting. If the room becomes too much for too long, it’s time to take a break. Go out for a breather.
    5. Just breathe. Remember it’s not rush and roulette. No one dies from taking an exam. Most of our fear is irrational. You have prepared and prepared well for the exam. You must believe in yourself.
